Phyllis Gleasman appointed to WVC Board of Trustees

Lake Chelan area community leader and Manson orchardist Phyllis Gleasman will attend her first meeting as a member of the Wenatchee Valley College Board of Trustees on Jan. 18. She was appointed to a five-year term by Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire.

“Education is the key to reaching an individual’s potential, be it in higher learning or technology,” Gleasman said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to ‘vision-share’ with administration and the other trustees, so that options are available for any person that chooses to enrich their life.”

Gleasman is responsible for implementing the food safety program at Chelan Fruit Cooperative.  She has 30 years of experience in the tree fruit industry and farming 50 acres of orchard in the Manson area.  She has resided in the Chelan/Manson area for 36 years. 

Gleasman is a member of Lake Chelan Rotary, Washington Growers Clearing House and the Washington Horticulture Association.  She is currently a commissioner for the Lake Chelan Community Hospital.  She is a former board member of the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce, Lake Chelan Community Hospital Foundation, Washington Growers Clearing House, and the Washington Ag and Forestry Leadership Foundation (Chair 2004).   She is a founding board member of Catalina Medical Clinic in Tucson, Ariz. Gleasman is a graduate of the Washington Ag and Forestry Leadership Program (1996-98) and certified SQF practitioner.

“Three members of my family are teachers, so I am aware of the day to day challenges they encounter,” Gleasman said.  “Having been very involved with my children from PTA to Little League and through high school, I understand the value of an education and how being involved makes a difference.”
